All eyes are on Charity as she prepares to meet her fate in court. Several witnesses are called to be questioned on the first day of the trial. Charity and Debbie are on tenterhooks as Cain is called to the stand. Having originally made a statement condemning his cousin, Cain shocks the court by protesting her innocence, backing up Charity's story that Chris killed himself.

Tension is mounting in the court as the second day of the trial unfolds. In the dock, Scott is taken apart by the defence lawyer, much to Zoe’s horror as she was relying on her new lackey to strengthen the case against Charity.

Charity can't disguise her optimism; even Viv's comments about 'breakfast for a condemned woman' pass her by. To explain her buoyant mood to Debbie, she says Zoe may still feel for her.

Charity prepares to take her future into her own hands as she is called to the dock. Aware that this is her last stab at freedom she tries to remain composed. Sticking firmly to her statement, Charity is cross-examined but pleads not guilty once more.

Everyone expects Zoe to be happy, but she isn't. Although the trial went her way, and it's Jean's birthday, she still doesn't have Chris back. An awkward visit from Terry doesn't help.

Jack and Diane both feel odd after last night's marriage proposal. Andy isn't interested in talking about it, so Jack has to reluctantly turn to, of all people, Diane's ex-husband Rodney. Rodney confirms that Diane loves Jack, but says the ultimatum may have been a bad move.

Diane and Jack both wake up very happy, though the 5:30am start isn't popular. Marlon and Louise are equally joyous on hearing the news, and break out the champagne for breakfast.

Jarvis is made to regret turning Simon down for the Emmerdale cricket team as he opens the batting for the opposition by hitting a six off the first ball of the match. Cunningly Rodney suggests that he bowls a few overs and has a word with Simon before he steps up to bowl.

Jack returns from taking Victoria to the child psychiatrist more worried than he was before he left. Victoria has been diagnosed as having become electively mute in response to a traumatic experience. Not only is he worried about what may have happened to Victoria, he is convinced the psychiatrist suspects him of child abuse.

When Victoria tells Jack she saw Robert kiss Katie and that her brother threatened her to keep quiet about it, Jack is devastated to learn his son has done such a thing. When Robert returns, Jack is furious and punches his son.

Robert’s eighteenth birthday is not one he's likely to forget in a hurry. Sporting an impressive looking black eye, he is marched around to the farm by Jack to collect his things. With Donna worried sick about where he's been Robert has some explaining to do.

Jack hopes Robert can put his affair with Katie behind him and gives his son a belated eighteenth birthday present. Robert heeds his dad's advice and decides not to return Katie's calls. Katie is more determined than ever that she and Robert should be together, and tells Chas that she is going to go and see Robert and Jack and lay her cards on the table.

After failing to stand up to Jack and admit he loves Katie, Robert regrets making a huge mistake. He goes to see Katie in the pub but Diane asks him to leave. Robert hangs around the pub and Katie later agrees to speak with him.

Knowing that Steph is desperate for somewhere to stash her phones, Zak devises a high-risk strategy to ensure Shadrach gets his wish and spends his last night of freedom with a woman. Zak tells a delighted Shadrach that Steph has agreed to go on a date with him. He then arranges a meeting with Steph to discuss payment for storing her phones.

With Shadrach nowhere to be found, Zak and Sam go in search of the feckless Dingle, knowing that if he's done a runner they could both be spending some time behind bars.

After another bitter row with Cain, Charity tells her lover that she has had enough of his childish ways and is moving out. Indignant, Cain later calls her bluff and visits Charity at work, emptying sacks of her belongings onto the floor.

Having spent the night at Holdgate Farm, Charity is delighted when Tom asks his guest to join him for a spot of breakfast. Jimmy is not happy about his father's breakfast arrangements.

Zoe finds herself feeling lonelier than ever after she makes a pass at a woman during the Chamber of Commerce dinner party at Home Farm. Unfortunately for Zoe the woman is straight. Drunk and sorry for herself, Zoe tells Paddy that she is frightened of spending the rest of her life alone.

By the time she returns Andy has read the letter and Robert is by his side, after picking up his brother's distraught phone message for Jack.

Unable to believe that Katie has been having an affair with Robert, Andy asks her to tell him it's not true. When Robert insists it is him she loves Andy attacks him.

Furious at Katie’s betrayal, Andy sets about removing every trace of her from his life. Jack is disturbed to find him covered in blood, trying to remove his tattoo of Katie's name.

Dressed to kill, Donna goes to see Robert at the garage, looking for some answers. When Robert callously makes sure that Donna knows she meant nothing to him Donna takes her revenge. Leaving Robert rolling around on the floor in agony after kneeing him where it hurts Donna goes to commiserate with Andy with a couple of bottles of wine. Andy unnerves Donna by talking about killing Robert.

Charity’s plans for making a huge impression on the host at Tom’s party come unravelled, as Jimmy’s glamorous wife Sadie causes amazement by arriving late for the party in a helicopter.

Charity is furious as Sadie takes over Tom’s party and treats her as hired staff, ordering her about. Glamorous Sadie is in her element as the centre of attention but still manages to put everyone in their place. She also uses Sam's instant obsession with her to her advantage and grills him on Charity's history.

It's the morning after the night before and Sadie wastes no time in bossing contractors about to clear up the debris from the party. Tom is pleased by the success of the event but comments to Sadie that it's a shame it ended so badly for Charity and wonders if she's okay after her fall.

Sadie is furious that Charity has managed to worm her way into Tom’s affections. Taking her anger out on Matthew and Jimmy, Sadie tells the brothers they should have kept a closer eye on their father.

As the bulldozers move in the villagers watch in horror as they realise there's little they can do to stop the development. However, there is help at hand from an unexpected source.

Jack’s attempt to build bridges by inviting his two sons round for lunch goes horribly wrong, as his eagerness to sort things out only manages to drive the brothers even further apart.

When Katie calls, Andy agrees to go and see her. Assuming Katie has asked him over so that he’ll take her back, Andy is furious when he discovers this is not the case.

Still angry and upset after seeing Katie, Andy drowns his sorrows in The Woolpack. His predicament is not helped when Cain decides to play devil's advocate and winds Andy up about Robert. Andy storms out of the pub and fetches his shotgun.

Jack remains unconscious and the doctors don’t know whether he’ll pull through. Robert and Andy both stick to their story that the shooting happened accidentally and the police release them for now.

Dawn uses court to take her revenge on Terry, Donna is dressed to impress, Jack slips in and out of consciousness, and it looks like it could be Zak's lucky day.

Diane is worried sick to find Jack still drifting in and out of consciousness when she arrives at the hospital. Her mood quickly turns to anger, as she demands answers from Andy. Andy sticks to his story that the shooting was an accident and he doesn’t know what happened.

Diane keeps vigil at unconscious Jack’s bedside, Jack opens his eyes telling him upbeat stories about her travels. She becomes emotional when she realises they never got round to planning their wedding as he lies motionless beside her.

Knowing full well why he's lying in hospital recovering from a gunshot wound, Jack demands the truth from Andy. Andy's reluctant confession that he meant to kill Robert leaves Jack silently furious. Andy flees the hospital and confides in Daz that he feels that Jack is going to make sure he gets what he deserves by sending him to jail.

When the doctor tells Jack he's free to go detectives wait out side his room eager to take his statement. Robert begs his father to think carefully before he speaks to them. The detectives make it plain to Jack from the outset that they know why Andy shot him.

Tootsie leads Jarvis and Shadrach to Edna and Sam makes himself scarce claiming that he is ill. Jarvis goes to phone for help while Shadrach sinks to news depths as he takes advantage of Jarvis's absence to help himself to Edna's cash. When the police arrive on the scene they find a broken wing mirror and say that it looks like they are dealing with a case of hit and run. Ethan runs into Cain in the shop and tells him about the trip to France. When Cain hears that there are assisted places available on the trip he takes exception to what he sees as an offer of charity. The Hope family's visit to Home Farm goes surprisingly well despite Viv kicking off proceedings with a few ill-advised remarks about baby Christopher looking poorly.

Charity thinks that her candour may have cost her chance of happiness with Tom but she is in for a surprise when the millionaire asks her to marry him. Needless to say Charity is delighted. Shelly decides to stand her ground after Steph's threatening behaviour the previous day. However, Steph manipulates her into believing she is being unfair to Alan and so Shelly tearfully tells him she cannot go to Spain after all. Danny is annoyed when Chas and Carl take his Polaroid camera without asking, especially when they come downstairs giggling, obviously up to no good.

Thinking she had seen off Charity's bid to bag Tom and his millions Sadie gets the shock of her life when Tom gathers the King clan together and announces his wedding plans. Sadie quietly warns Charity that Tom will soon find out what she's up to, but is left fuming when Charity triumphantly points out that she will soon be her mother-in-law. Carl insists he's not afraid of his dad, Chas calls his bluff by threatening to show Tom the nude Polaroids. She takes it one step too far by addressing the pictures to Tom before popping them into the post box. Furious Carl asks Paul to retrieve the envelope, but Paul refuses, knowing it's more that his job's worth. In a rage, Carl thumps Paul, leaving Siobhan livid and Chas dumbstruck. Carl watches in horror as Paul falls to his death on the ground below. In a blind panic, Carl goes to Jimmy and Matthew for assistance and the brothers decide to make Paul's death look like an accident by moving him to his own garden. Later, Siobhan returns from the pub with Chloe and is horror-stricken to find her husband's lifeless body. As Siobhan desperately cradles Paul, Chloe tearfully rings for an ambulance. When Tom and Charity celebrate their engagement in the Woolpack Chas makes the most of Tom's generosity and after one too many drinks Cain is forced to take her home. When the police visit Holdgate Farm Carl manages to answer their questions about Paul's death but he has more problems with his own conscience and decides he must tell Siobhan what happened. Having persuaded Siobhan to go and stay with friends for a while Matthew is a relieved man, but he is made uneasy when Sadie becomes suspicious about Carl's sudden trip to Romania. Edna remains determined not to be beaten by her immobility but struggles to carry out day-to-day tasks. In doing so she suffers a fall trying to care for Tootsie. When Marlon breaks the news to Sam and Shadrach that he has had a call to say Zak has been arrested at customs for smuggling Rodney’s vine, Shadrach sees a moneymaking opportunity. All they have to do, he tells Sam, is go to the garden centre and buy a grapevine and pass it off as the vine Zak was supposed to bring back.

Edna continues to refuse help from her neighbours and refusing to use the commode sets of for Café Hope to use the toilet. When she has an accident, Viv offers her sympathy. She offers her a cup of tea and tells her that her mother had to give in and use a commode in the end. Edna angrily returns home to find that Sam has built her a ramp.

At the adoption hearing, Charity pauses before confirming that she does not feel able to bring up her son. Faced with such an unusual case the judge decides to call a recess. As Charity leaves the court, Zoe goes to thank her but Charity cuts her short, telling her it was a business arrangement.

Charity tells him that she doesn’t like the thought of him being brought up by strangers. He tells her that at his time of life he wasn’t planning to raise any more kids and tells her that she must decide whether she wants to keep Noah.

Andy's financial worries deepen when the combine harvester he has borrowed breaks down on him. When Lisa tells him that the part alone will cost two grand he despairs of his situation. Zak and Cain offer to help come up with a plan to ease his financial worries.

Andy gets cold feet about the cattle clocking scam but Zak and Cain set the wheels in motion by procuring the ear tags they need from Paddy who turns a blind eye. When the buyer turns up he spots the scam immediately and threatens Andy with the police.

Terry is delighted to see his son again when Jean returns from Spain with TJ. Later as they play with TJ in the garden, Terry apologises to Dawn for not trusting her.

Terry is over the moon at the thought of TJ’s return and busily prepares for his arrival, setting up play equipment in the garden and blowing up balloons to welcome him home. When Dawn walks through the door on her own, Terry is livid and is not interested in her explanation.

Pearl receives a nasty shock when she goes to visit her son in prison and bumps into Lisa. She tells Lisa that she's a prison visitor and is on her way home. Lisa is not convinced, and later when Pearl makes herself scarce when the Dingles walk into The Woolpack, Lisa goes after her and Pearl confesses that her son is in prison.

Zoe becomes more and more absentminded and short-tempered. When Scott calls round to pick up Jean, Zoe has no recollection of their arrangement and says she is taking the children out herself.

Zoe’s nanny is concerned when she finds Jean and Joseph have slept in their clothes in the living room. Zoe reacts angrily and tells the nanny she is out of a job. Zoe heads for the church and sits deep in prayer while the children are left to their own devices.

Concerned for Zoe, Paddy becomes seriously worried when he phones her and she picks up the phone without answering it. He heads off to Home Farm to see whether Zoe is okay. When Joseph lets Paddy in he finds Zoe wrapped in a duvet on the sofa.

When Jack and Rodney run into each other in the shop neither can explain Diane’s odd behaviour. Jack is not reassured by Rodney’s suggestion that she may be nervous about getting married. To reassure Jack, Rodney offers to provide the wine for the wedding, and to show that he trusts his fiance’s ex-husband Jack graciously accepts the offer.

The locals are stunned when Alan bursts into The Woolpack dressed in his pyjamas claiming that Steph has murdered Shelley. Questioning Alan's state of mind, Paddy and Marlon lead him back to the B&B. He protests, claiming that Steph is drugging him, but his pleas fall on deaf ears. Elsewhere, the Dingles are busy preparing for their party. Lisa gets a shock when she returns home to find all of the furniture has been moved away and is less than impressed at the thought of a house full of extended family members.

Rodney attempts to makes things better but makes them a hundred times worse with an insensitive remark about Paul soon picking someone up in bar.

Pearl feels bad that Jarvis will be alone and asks Len if he will consider inviting him too.
